These are the three steps taken by the different authorities to reform political parties and their leaders in India. 1. the constitution was amended so that members of any party couldn't leave their party and join other.2.it's important to provide the criminal record. there are orders from supreme court that one can't use muscle or money power.

3.the election commissioner makes sure that political parties file their income tax returns.

Note: Political parties are essential parts of the democratic form of governance, being the most visible faces of parliamentary democracy. Certain amendments in the Constitution were made for the reformation of political parties because many MPs and MLAs indulged in ‘defection’. Defection is defined as shifting from one party to another after getting elected to a legislative body. In 1985, an anti-defection law was passed to prevent this.

The steps for reformations:

(i) The constitution was amended to prevent elected MLA and MP from changing parties, by bringing anti-defection law.

(ii) The Supreme Court had passed an order to reduce the influence of money and criminal. It is now mandatory for candidates to submit a record of criminal activities and the amount of property they own.

(iii) The Election Commission passed an order making it necessary for political parties to hold their organisational elections and file their income tax returns.
