Is iPhone 6 and 6s the same size case

as last year’s iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, respectively. They’re a bit lighter, but the iPhone 7 still measures 138.3mm x 67.1mm x 7.1mm, while the iPhone 7 Plus is still at 158.2mm x 77.9mm x 7.3mm. The display sizes haven’t changed, either.

With only minor tweaks to the design of the iPhone 6, cases designed for last year's handset should properly fit the iPhone 6s series when it launches later this month, meaning upgraders won't need to buy new accessories.

Apple's website notes that both its leather and silicone cases for the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will also fit the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, respectively. All four handsets are being sold by the company simultaneously, and the official Apple cases are confirmed to fit both the iPhone 6 series and the 6s lineup.

This year's iPhone 6s lineup is slightly thicker and heavier, but not enough to make cases designed for the iPhone 6 obsolete. Cases for last year's phone should fit the iPhone 6s just fine.

Though cases will continue to fit with the latest models, the new iPhone 6s lineup is slightly thicker than the iPhone 6 models.

Specifically, the iPhone 6s Plus is slightly taller, at 6.23 inches in this year's model, compared to 6.22 inches for the iPhone 6 Plus. The new Plus model is also slightly wider, at 3.07 inches, up from 3.06 inches last year.

Both the iPhone 6s and the 6s Plus are also slightly thicker at 0.28-inch and 0.29-inch, respectively. In comparison, last year's iPhone 6 was 0.27-inch thick, while the iPhone 6 Plus was at 0.28-inch

Finally, this year's models are also slightly heavier. The Plus model has seen an increase from 6.07 ounces to 6.77 ounces, while the iPhone 6s weighs in at 5.04 ounces, up from 4.55 ounces for the iPhone 6.

Much of these external changes are believed to be related to a new casing material. Apple's iPhone 6s lineup utilizes 7000 series aluminum, which makes the device more rigid. Apple uses the same aluminum alloy on its Apple Watch Sport.

Given that Apple's cases fit both last year's and this year's models, it's likely that virtually all third-party cases will also fit properly. Case maker Speck indicated as much last week.

As for Apple's own cases, the company greatly expanded the color options for its silicone case lineup. While last year's iPhone 6 cases came in six total colors, this year the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s silicone options now total 11 different colors.

a plus is a larger device so while one could place an iphone6 in an iphone6 plus case then it would likely fall off pretty quickly

Would a iPhone 6s case fit a iPhone 6? Or would it be lose.

Just having trouble finding a life proof case for my iPhone 6. They are either not something I like or cost to much.

Apple has already begun updating their Apple Store displays in preparation for this Friday's iPhone 6s and 6s Plus launch, and one casualty: A surprising lack of "iPhone 6"-branded cases.

Spoiler: Those iPhone 6 Apple-branded cases may be no more. They certainly weren't on display at the store I visited in Providence, RI. Instead, everywhere I looked in our relatively small store, iPhone 6 and 6 Plus signage had been replaced with titles advertising their newer models. They're gone on Apple's online store, as well, replaced with a neat little virtual try-on room (opens in new tab) for various color combinations of phone and case style.

This recent change has left a few shoppers rather confused. While I was shopping, I heard "Where's all the iPhone 6 Apple cases? I need iPhone 6," from a girl next to me, complaining to her shopping companion.

What they didn't know is that iPhone 6s and 6s Plus cases will fit their last-generation cousins. The devices are virtually exteriorly identical to last year's models, and as such, leather cases and silicon cases alike fit without issue. (You can see a few of my try-ons of 6s cases on an iPhone 6 below.)

Unfortunately, that may not help confused shoppers who aren't quite as savvy about phone dimensions. Tip: Flip the box over for a very tiny 8-point font notation: "Compatible with iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s."

Aside from sizing, the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus cases come in a variety of pastel colors to mirror the new Apple Watch Sport Bands, as well as the traditional brown, light pink, and midnight blue (now of the Apple Watch Modern Buckles).

Of course, for those wondering: Yes, this means you can use your iPhone 6 case with your 6s, too. And probably non-Apple branded cases, as well, though I haven't had a chance to test any of those quite yet.
