What is Courtesy Pay limit Members 1st

For members who qualify, Courtesy Pay provides a pre-approved $525 overdraft limit to your personal checking account. If you overdraw, we may pay each item up to your $525 limit. Every time you utilize Courtesy Pay, your account will be assessed a Courtesy Pay charge of $25 per item.

Courtesy Pay saves you from:

  • Merchant returned check fees
  • Collection agency fees for returned items

Plus, using Courtesy Pay doesn't impact your credit score, so you have the added safety measure of protecting your good credit rating.

Because of Federal regulations, you must opt-in to receive Courtesy Pay overdraft protection on ATM/debit card transactions. American 1 does not authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions unless requested:

  • Checking transactions
  • ACH and automatic debit transactions
  • Everyday debit card transactions
  • ATM transactions

Overdrafts are paid at American 1's discretion. We do not guarantee that we will always authorize and pay any type of transaction. If we do not authorize and pay an overdraft, your transaction will be declined.*

*The Credit Union is not obligated to authorize transactions or pay any overdraft, even if you have Courtesy Pay. We will decide to pay overdrafts on a case-by-case basis, in our sole and absolute discretion. The Credit Union may refuse to pay any items without first notifying you, even though your account is in good standing and even if we have paid previous overdrafts. For your overdrafts that are paid, you promise to immediately pay us all sums, including fees and charges for this service advanced to you or any other person you permit to use your checking account and/or who causes an overdraft on your checking account.

What is Courtesy Pay limit Members 1st

An overdraft occurs when you do not have enough money in your account to cover a transaction, but we will pay the items for you.  We can cover your overdrafts in three different ways:

  1.  Overdraft Protection
    Transfer funds from a savings account or another account linked to your checking accounts to pay overdrafts.  Overdraft transfer fee is $7.00 per transfer.
  2. Courtesy Pay
    If no funds are available in the accounts linked to the checking account, Courtesy Pay pays overdrafts up to $500.00.  Courtesy pay fee is $35 each time we pay an overdraft.   There is no limit on the total fees we can charge you for overdrawing your account.
  3. Personal Line of Credit
    It’s an unsecured loan that provides overdraft protection. Credit is given to qualified borrowers. If  no funds are available in accounts linked to the checking account, the Line of Credit pays overdrafts up to the allowable amount the member qualifies for.  The Line of Credit will be accessed after the available share balance is depleted and before Courtesy Pay is accessed.

The following types of transactions are covered:

  • Checks and other transactions made using our routing number and your checking account number
  • Automatic bill payments

What fees will I be charged if Members 1st of NJ FCU pays my overdraft?

  • We will charge you a fee of $7 for overdraft protection. If no funds are available in linked accounts to your checking, then courtesy pay  covers your items for a fee of $35 per overdraft.
  • There is no limit on the total fees we can charge you for overdrawing your account.
