First Appearance
"In Case of Emergency"
Shane Evans is a main character on HBO Max's The Flight Attendant. He is portrayed by Griffin Matthews.

He is Cassie’s flight attendant “work friend” and fellow nightlife compatriot, as well as a secret CIA agent investigating the activities of their supervisor, Megan Briscoe. Their friendship is put to the test when Cassie’s life begins to unravel.

In the second season, Cassie continues to come into contact with Shane through her work, although she has moved to Los Angeles. The two come into conflict, as Shane continues to investigate Megan, whom Cassie is trying to help with her troubles with the North Koreans. Despite this, he also helps Cassie, who has found herself embroiled in yet another international conspiracy.

Throughout the Series[]

"In Case of Emergency"[]

Shane joins his co-workers in teasing Cassie about her apparent involvement with the man in seat 3C, Alex Sokolov, during a flight to Bangkok. Later, on the flight back, he shares with Megan Briscoe, another co-worker, a news story on his phone - "American Murdered in Bangkok Hotel Room," detailing the death of Sokolov. He and Megan again try to get Cassie to admit to having gone out with him, but she claims to have only ever served him drinks. He then invites her to go out with him for food, but she refuses, claiming tiredness. When they return to America, they are instructed to gather at B-31 to be questioned by the authorities. Cassie tries to flee the airport and when he asks her about it, she curses him. During his interview with FBI agents Kim Hammond and Van White, he asks them if Alex was some kind of weird sleeper agent for the Russians.

"Rabbits"[]

Following the interviews with the FBI, Shane wants to talk about it, but Megan cuts him off, saying that they're not supposed to and that the FBI is scary. Later, Cassie joins Shane and the others for "oyster night" at a bar, but doesn't stay with them long.

"Funeralia"[]

Cassie asks Shane to come with to a wake, but when they get there, it turns out to be a wake for Alex Sokolov. He asks her she really brought him to "3C"'s funeral and when she tells him that it's not a funeral but a memorial, he chews her out, asking how she could have not told him. He then leaves her and joins another group, griping about having invited as a "plus-one" to a memorial, but then tells off a man who refers to women as "bitches." Later, Cassie leaves, taking Shane with her and he asks where they're going, saying that he didn't even want to come in the first place. She notes that he didn't have any problem "liasoning" with the cater-waiter and he calls it a lot of judgment from someone who just crashed a memorial service.

"Conspiracy Theories"[]

Seeking companionship after being forced to relive a painful memory, Cassie calls Shane, but he refuses the call and it goes to voicemail.

"After Dark"[]

Once again looking for someone to spend time with after another painful moment, Cassie again calls Shane, but the call again goes to voicemail.

"Arrivals and Departures"[]

On a work flight to Rome, Shane asks Cassie for a word or two. She asks if he's talking to her now and he tells her that he just needed a break after the funeral. She tells him that she's been trying to apologize to him and he agrees that it's time he accepted. He says that nobody close to him has ever died before and that he might have done the same thing in her shoes. He tells them that everything is good between them and that he needs her as his friend, that Megan and Jada have been driving him crazy.

Later, Cassie finds herself locked in mortal conflict with Buckley Ware, also known as "Feliks," an assassin who has secretly been keeping tabs on her while also posing as her boyfriend, and the killer of Alex Sokolov. Cassie manages to shoot him, but not enough to stop his advances, and she is shocked when Shane suddenly bursts in the door and shoots Buckley in the chest. She gasps in shock and after the dust settles a bit, Shane meets her outside. She asks what his deal is, how he was able to just roll into the room with a gun. He says that he probably shouldn't tell her, but he's an agent with the CIA who has been working undercover, investigating Megan for corporate espionage against her husband.

Things get squared away and Cassie returns to the United States, where the FBI manages to clean up remaining loose ends, allowing her to keep her job with Imperial Atlantic. She boards her next flight and is surprised to discover Shane still there, working. He tells her that all she needs to know right now is that he works for Imperial Atlantic and that if he told her anything more, he was extremely jet-lagged. Despite this, he tells her that his boss is interested in her for their "human asset program." She asks him if he's serious and he tells her they won't give her a gun or anything, but they need to talk, because his boss will call.

"Seeing Double"[]

Cassie has moved to Los Angeles, but while on the way to a flight to Berlin, she encounters Shane Evans. She comments that she's been seeing a lot of him around LAX lately, asking jokingly if he's stalking her. He tells her that he a took a Transpacific route and has been seeing the sights. Cassie comments "...and doing the secret work that's a secret job that we can't talk about 'cause I'm doing it too and it's so much fun," referring to their respective work for the CIA. He tells her that if they could talk about it, he'd say that what the two of them do are very different things. He comments that she seems very put-together and the two of them discuss their respective love lives before parting ways.

"The Reykjavik Ice Sculpture Festival Is Lovely This Time of Year"[]

Cassie jump seats a flight to Reykjavik, Iceland in the hope of finding Megan Briscoe, who is on the run from North Korean agents. Shortly after boarding, Shane approaches her. "Carol Atkinson"?" he asks, referring to the fact that Cassie is using a ticket in this person's name. Cassie tells him that Carol gave her the seat, which he finds suspicious. She also claims that she need to get away. "And you landed on Iceland?" wonders Shane. She tells him that she's going to see an ice festival, but he's clearly not buying.

In Iceland, Shane seems to keep running into Cassie. He eventually confronts her, revealing that the real reason he's in Iceland is to search for Megan. He believes her to be doing the same thing and calls her out on this, but she claims that Megan doesn't have anything to do with why she's there. When he calls out her lie, she starts shouting in a crowded hotel, saying that she doesn't care whether he believes her or not, and leaves.

"Blue Sincerely Reunion"[]

Having found Megan and on the run with her, boarding a helicopter, Cassie gets a call from Shane. He tells her that he wants to lead by saying that he hasn't called to fight. He says that he made some assumptions he maybe shouldn't have, saying that he's never not closed a case and the whole Megan thing has him on edge. When Megan shouts at her, Cassie claims her to only be an angry tourist. He tells her to just come to him if she's ever in trouble, saying that he's only a phone call away and hanging up. However, after the call has ended, he goes over to a colleague who is investigating one of the dead bodies of a North Korean agent left behind in the wake of Cassie and Megan's escape. He holds up his smartphone, showing the colleague a picture. "Megan Briscoe," he tells him, "most likely traveling with a blonde. Give me eyes on all the airports."

"Drowning Women"[]

Cassie, having escaped back to the United States, calls Shane, reminding him that he told her to call him if she needed anything. She tells him that she thinks that somebody stole her identity and that they're with the CIA. His reaction is that he doesn't know what to say, and she asks him if he knows about the two CIA analysts that were killed at Echo Park. He replies that he didn't know that they were CIA analysts and that she shouldn't either. She tells him that she has proof that the killings are linked to what she in Berlin, stored on a Viewmaster. He tells her to just lay low for the time being and that he'll see what he can dig up for when they meet at training. She asks what he's even talking about and he reminds her that they have mandatory Imperial Atlantic continuing qualification training. "That's today?" she groans and he tells her to bring the Viewmaster with her, that it may contain trace evidence.

At the training, Cassie meets up with Shane, who comments that it looks like she's been crying. She explains that her boyfriend Marco just dumped her. She reminds him that there's also still someone out there imitating her, asking him if he found anything out. He tells her that he found security stills showing the double, but that it's nothing without context, asking if she brought the Viewmaster. She, however, tells him that she was unable to get it, instead showing him a psych evaluation that she stole from the CIA office. She tells him that it paints her as a crazy person, but he is more concerned with how she even has it. She tells him that she slept with her handler, Benjamin Berry, and he warns her that stealing CIA files is bad, that the CIA can take her away if they want.

Just then, Jada Harris comes up, asking Shane how his boyfriend Justin is. Cassie asks her to give them five minutes, but Jada just asks them if "the three of them feel comfortable working together." Cassie asks what she means and Jada indicates Carol Atkinson. Cassie curses and the three of them are forced to work together. Cassie, however, eventually grows so irritated with Carol that she shouts at her, asking her just what she wants. When Shane tells her to calm down, that they have lives to save, she storms out of the training.

Later, Cassie has spiraled out of control and gone back to drinking. She puts in a call to Shane, hoping for support, and ends up reaching his boyfriend, Justin. She tells him that she has to speak with Shane, that he's "the only other person at the CIA she knows." This comes as a complete shock to Justin, who had no idea that Shane was in any way affiliated with the CIA. He puts Shane on the phone, who tells Justin that Cassie is being a jokester. He then takes the phone outside, chewing Cassie out, saying that he felt he had a future with Justin and she may have blown it. She apologizes, saying that her life is an actual danger, and he asks if it's the actual danger of what happened in Iceland. She sobs, saying that she's her friend, and asking what happened to her friend. "He's working and you are drunk," he tells her. He says that it's sad and that she needs to sober up. He promises to keep looking into her case once he's fixed things with Justin, but tells her that will have to be good enough for now and hangs up.

"Brothers & Sisters"[]

Shane is in a car with his boyfriend, Justin. Justin tells him that he loves him, but that they have a lot to talk about. Shane says that he was going to tell him he was with the CIA. Justin, however, says that it's not even about this, so much as that he's in a relationship with someone who could die. Shane promises him he's going to try not to die and Justin kisses him, then gets out of the car. Shane then gets a call. It's from Cassie's handler, Benjamin, who says that Shane was Cassie's recruiting agent, asking if he knows her personally. To this, Shane replies that Cassie isn't his favorite person in the world right now, but he does know her. Benjamin then asks if Shane knows of Cassie being involved with any radicalized political groups. To this, Shane replies "of course not," shaking his head. He asks what Benjamin is getting at, and Benjamin replies that Cassie's history suggests that she's prone to mental illness and substance abuse. He continues that Cassie is unusual and unpredictable. Shane, however, tells him that he has nothing else to tell him, then ends the call.

Later, Cassie boards a plane, having just escaped North Korean agents along with her brother Davey when she gets a call from Shane. She asks him if he's still mad at her about the whole Justin thing and he tells her that she had better be alone right now. She lies and says that she is. He curses, as it is clear that she is lying, but says he's going to leave it for now. He tells her that her handler, Benjamin, called him to quiz him and that he thought it was strange. He continues that he then saw a CIA memo for a person wanted in connection with recent murders: a blonde woman with a slim build who travels internationally. He says that it's a big billboard for her and she replies that she's just glad he's on her side. She also tells him that Dot Karlson has asked her to come home and is also on her side. Shane, however, tells her that the agency is not her friend, that Benjamin is poisoning the well. He says that they need to meet before she goes anywhere near the CIA. She, however, tells him that she discovered that one of the sliders on the Viewmaster is a boat registration number, saying that they should find the boat. To this, he says that just when he thinks they're on the same page, she goes and says something even more bonkers. "Have we met?" she quips, promising that she will text him.

"No Exit"[]

Cassie and Shane arrive at the marina with the boat with the registration number featured on the Viewmaster. As they arrive, Cassie starts to speak and he points out that she's been silent the whole trip. He tells her that with the whole Megan thing and her having outed him as being with the CIA to Justin, he's kind of on the fence about their friendship. Nevertheless, he says that he doesn't think that she deserves to be framed for murder. She tells him that she's been going through a lot, but that hurting him is the worst part. He accepts her apology and she starts to get out, but he stops her. He tells her that he did some digging and that everyone who has died so far has been in some way associated with her original mark, Will Kotov. Cassie thinks back to Dot telling her that Benjamin Berry fought to be her handler, wondering if Benjamin did so in order to pin all this on her.

They get out and proceed to the boat identified by the registration number, the Cream & Sugar. As they approach, Shane spots a bloodstain on the ground and warns Cassie to be quiet. They enter the boat, Shane warning Cassie not to touch anything and pulling back a tarp to reveal three dead bodies, including a man named Jim Jones that Cassie saw in Berlin and whom Dot told her was Benjamin's "errand boy." Cassie tells Shane that he recognizes him and Shane tells her that they have to call the police, that this isn't a CIA case. Cassie, troubled by the whole situation, asks her if these people are all dead because of her. He tells her that they aren't, then is horrified when she sees a red glove that she says is hers from Berlin and goes to pick it up. He shouts at her to drop it and she does. Moments later, however, as he is busy on the pone with the police, she stealthily grabs the glove again and pockets it.

The two of them return to Cassie's place, where Annie and Max are still staying. As Cassie begins talking about what happened at the marina, Annie asks her if it was wise for her to bring a co-worker along for the discussion. Ignoring Shane's warning, Cassie tells her and Max that Shane is also with the CIA. Exasperated, he suggests that they just get to work. He breaks things down, explaining that there's only one slide left on the Viewmaster and that in his opinion the only way the killer can successfully frame Cassie is if she's dead. He tells her that he thinks that she is the next target. Just then, Cassie's phone rings and she heads into the bathroom. Annie tells Shane that this is where Cassie is headed, saying that everything secretive happens there.

After Cassie is coaxed out of the bathroom by Annie, the group returns to discussing the situation. Max reports that he thinks he has something, explaining that the final Viewmaster slide is from an amusement park ride at Pacific Park at Santa Monica Pier. He says that whatever is happening has to happen today, as tomorrow the park is to be shut down for an entire month for refurbishing. Cassie then discovers a bloody knife in the room and Shane finds that somebody has jimmied the back-door. Cassie then tells Shane that they need to go to the pier right now. Annie points out that if everything Shane is saying is correct, then Cassie is doing exactly what the person trying to frame her wants. Nevertheless, Cassie goes to a draw and pulls out a box-cutter. Shane tells her that she doesn't need it, that she's not going anywhere. Cassie, however, replies that he can say what he wants, but the second he leaves, she's going. Shane, giving in, tells her that she needs to follow her instructions. Annie and Max also indicate they're coming, but he tells them that they're not. The second, however, that he and Cassie leave, the two of them make ready to go as well.

Shane and Cassie arrive at Santa Monica Pier. Shane warns her that she needs to be on high alert. Cassie asks him if Megan were back in the states if he would and he finished the sentence by stating "put her in federal prison for life." She asks for him to hear her out, but he just points to a bench. He tells her to stay there and not move and to text him if she sees the double. He continues that she just low-key admitted to helping a wanted traitor to get back into the country but that they'll deal with that later.

Shane walks off, leaving Cassie to keep an eye out for the double while he goes off to scope things out on his own. Almost immediately after he takes off, Cassie spots a blonde woman in sunglasses. She texts Shane, but then, once again ignoring his advice, takes off in pursuit. Cassie's escapades take her to the top of a Ferris wheel and meanwhile Shane encounters Benjamin Berry just below it. "Mr. Berry?" he asks him and Benjamin tells him that he shouldn't be there. To this, Shane replies that he was hoping that Benjamin wouldn't be there, but that he know he would after everything Cassie found out. As their confrontation continues, Cassie watches from above. She observes Shane fall over to the ground, but then Benjamin as well. It turns out that they have both been staged by Grace St. James, a woman who posed as a fellow flight attendant of Cassie's who was actually the double.

"Backwards and Forwards"[]

Shane is in a hospital bed, recovering from his stab wounds, when he receives a visit from Cassie. She is shocked at his appearance, shouting "Oh my God!", but Shane asks her to at least act like it's not a big deal so that he can continue to pretend this as well. "It's just a little scratch, you're such a baby!" she shouts and a bemused Shane tells her that she's overcorrected. She admits to still being in shock, but he tells her that it's over, that everything is okay now. He admits that he originally believed that she was crying wolf, but tells her that she was right and to treasure him having said that. She tells him that she loves him, but that she needs a favor. He points out that he's still in the middle of the last favor, but she goes to the hospital room door and ushers in Megan Briscoe.

Shane immediately reaches for his hospital phone, but Cassie shouts at him not to touch it. He tells her that he knew that if he stuck with her long enough that she would bring him Megan and there she is. Cassie asks if he's been working her, but he tells her that she can't be offended that he didn't believe her lies. Cassie asks Shane to hear Megan out, that she has serious evidence against the North Koreans. "She's our friend," she tells Shane, begging him not to be like her. Megan shows Shane a laptop, saying that it's filled with evidence, telling him that she knows it's a hail Mary but that she's tired of running. Cassie tells Shane that she was so fixated on stopping Grace that she almost got herself killed. She pleads with Shane to think about what's on the other side. Shane finally relents, telling Megan that he would need complete transparency. "She totally knows," says Cassie, but Shane shushes her and motions for her to leave. Thanks to Shane's leniency, Megan is permitted to enter witness protection. As she and her family prepare to begin their new life as the "Jones family," she receives a note from one of the witness protection agents assigned to them. It reads "Stay out of trouble. - Shane".

Sometime following these events, Shane greets Cassie as she arrives late at the wedding of Annie and Max in a chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada. He chastises her for inviting him on a date, only to show up late. The two toast with non-alcoholic beverages and she asks him if she told him that Annie and Max are planning to start their own P.I. firm. "That's very 1979 Hart to Hart," quips Shane, but Cassie pleads that she's too young for the reference. He asks her if she's good to remain there by herself, saying that she has a flight to catch. "Is it a work flight or a work flight?" asks Cassie, then quips that they have to stop talking about this job they don't have or Benjamin will cut her loose. To this, he tells her that what he's about to say is classified, but that she's golden with the CIA. He is referring to the fact that Cassie took down Dot Karlson, who was the real architect of the double conspiracy and another secret double herself. He explains that Dot was a very bad person who put a lot of agents and risk and killed others, thus the CIA owes Cassie a great deal. He then congratulates Annie and Max, saying that he's a terrible wedding guest but the whole thing is beautiful, before leaving.
