I think the big problem was that what Myra had always been told she should want might not have been what she really wanted. She just unfortunately wasn't in a position most of her life to figure out what she did want.It's indicated that Myra's homelife left a lot to be desired, and she didn't have a whole lot of self-esteem. (She feel very easily for Hank's telling her she was beautiful and followed him out to Colorado, not knowing what she was getting into.) And as a prostitute, she would have been made to feel like the lowest of the low.Then she meets Horace, who is a good and kind man, and who falls in love with her. Having somebody decent tell her that he loves her and wants to marry her probably gave Myra a rush--but it wasn't necessarily love. She wanted out of her life. She was told that marriage and children were what she should have wanted all her life. And here was a decent man offering this to her, despite knowing what she was.I suspect here that Myra felt more gratitude towards Horace than she did love. I'm not saying she *didn't* love him....but her relationship with Horace was, in its own way, just as unequal as her relationship with Hank was. It just wasn't as obvious, because Horace was offering her a decent life, the one she was told by society all the time she should want.And maybe Myra would have been happy with that. Except something happened--she met Michaela Quinn. Who said what she thought and did what she pleased and married a man who was kind, loving, and supported her in everything that she did. And Mike influenced Myra.Problem: While Horace was a nice guy, he wasn't Sully. He didn't have Sully's confidence, he didn't have Sully's backbone (Horace let a number of people push him around, not just Myra), he didn't have Sully's convictions.And also, Myra wasn't Dr. Mike. For all that Mike was a little 'different', she *was* also a Boston Society Lady, with money and culture coming out of her ears. Was she odd? Yes. But Sully didn't have to worry about anybody coming up to him sniggering about how they 'knew' his wife. Myra, again, was a prostitute, and living in the very town she'd worked in. Horace had to live with knowing that a good number of men in the town 'knew' his wife--and Horace, as already stated, was not the most secure of men.So here comes the conflict--Myra wants to do things and have adventures like Mike does. Horace wants her to keep a low profile. And maybe pre-Mike, Myra (lacking confidence) would have been happy to do so. After Mike....not so much.So you have two nice people who both thought they knew what they wanted....and it didn't turn out as either of them planned.
I don't think it made either of them 'bad'--I think it's just a reality of life. Sometimes what we think we want isn't all that it's cracked up to be.
