Why do my hands smell like garlic Reddit

How do certain smells like onions stay on your fingers for so long, even after you wash your hands repeatedly? from NoStupidQuestions

My fingers are icky, and simply washing them doesn't seem to be sufficient to eliminate this scent.

My fingers still smell like garlic a few days after cooking because I am made of meat and I marinated myself. from Showerthoughts
Why do my hands smell like garlic after I play trombone? from Trombone

I was chopping up garlic about 4 days ago while making dinner, and I still have the smell of garlic on my fingers, 4 days later. There is a TON of info out there about how to get the smell off, but how and why does the smell stay on my fingers that long?

Does anyone know good ways to get rid of the smell of these things? Also, I'm somewhat allergic to Eco-Lab cleaning products. It makes my hands break out in really dry rashes. If anyone has any helpful solutions to fixing that issue too that'd be awesome. Thanks!

I cant remember when I first started to notice this but it's been years. I've searched online and there are others like me but nobody was able to find an answer. Just to get the obvious out of the way I haven't touched garlic in forever or eaten anything with garlic for awhile. Just seems to be my natural smell I guess? It's also just me fingers that smell this way.

Why do my fingers smell like garlic? I never touch the stuff. from NoStupidQuestions

I have a really strong sense of smell. I think my sense of smell is stronger than that of many pregnant women. I've always had this strong sense of smell, just like many members of my family. I rarely find problems with it, but one thing that bothers me that every time I cut garlic, onions, leek or other similar vegetables, my hands smell like those vegetables for days. I can smell it, my mother can smell it, but my partner is unable to just like most other people.

Do you know any ways to get rid of this smell, or avoid my hands from getting smelly? I already wash my hands before cooking, after handling raw meat, and after handling smelly vegetables. I also wash my hands each morning and evening, and after every toilet visit. I wash thoroughly, so I do not think this is a problem. My nails are always short and I make sure they are clean as well. I tried wearing nitrile gloves to cut vegetables, but I hate wearing those and I'd rather use my bare hands. Do you know any ways to help me with my smell problem?
