  1. You do not have permission to access this device Samsung

    Hello Everyone -

I have been a member of the Insider Program for Desktop since the beginning of the program. I have a desktop computer at work on a domain that uses my work logon and have also connected to my Microsoft account. I have a Lumia Icon also in the Insider program. Both are running 14332 at this point.

My question is this - about a year ago one of the releases broke my ability to connect my phone to my computer via a USB cable. Everything connects and shows in Windows explorer, but I receive this error if I try to click on the phone in explorer to access its files: You do not have permission to access this device. I cannot access Flash drives either.

If log onto the computer as my personal account, everything works fine and dandy.

Yesterday, I wiped my entire profile from my work logon and I was able to access my phone. Today the ability has once again gone away. Is this some kind of global policy or what might need to be changed to allow access?

Thanks for the update. I did talk this through with our network administrator last night and they did the group policy to block USB devices. Luckily, she likes me enough that she granted special permission to my account so that my access is now restored.

You do not have permission to access this device Samsung

  1. You do not have permission to access this device Samsung

    Thread Starter

    Hi,
I recently bought Samsung Galaxy Note 2 GT-N7105. When I plug it into my laptop running Windows 7, I can see it as a Portable Media Player in the explorer but when I try to see files on the device, I get an error saying "You do not have permission to access this device". I tried unlocking the phone, uninstalling the device from device manager, updating drivers, checking usb permissions, used Samsung Kies, Connecting as MTP and Camera mode etc. Nothing has helped. I can access my phone on other computers running windows 7. Is there some specific setting that is dis-allowing me to access my phone?
Please help as it is very frustrating to every time remove the external memory card for file transfer

    Hi

In settings> developer options do you have usb debbuging selected?

You could always set your phone as a ftp server and access files that way (if you have wifi) Quite a few file explorer apps plus a few specific ones provide this facility. I use es file manager.

  6. Not sure what the problem is but as soon as I plug my phone into my laptop a Dialogue box comes on screen asking me if I wish open and view the files, normally I just exit.
I then go into my computer and as you say Portable devices GT7100 is in view I just click on portable devices and it displays the storage on the phone and the internal SD card, I then just click on phone or card to view all my folders, have never had a problem am running Windows 7 64bit

  7. Since OP's Note II works on other PCs with Windows 7, I don't think it is his phone. OP, did you install any Samsung driver or Kies on the laptop? I have read that installing the drivers sometime make it NOT work on Windows 7. What about the USB cable? Are you using the same cable? Sometime the cable could be bad. Have you tried changing to a different USB port?

No I have not enabled USB debugging on my Note 2
Accessing via wifi is frustrating as it is very slow. Have tried it with Kies and AirDroid. Very slow over wifi

Attempt 1 : Laptop doesnt have any specific drivers for Samsung phones installed. For the very first time I bought my phone I connected it via usb mode. Windows automatically installed some drivers. After that, I tried accessing phone and got error message "you do not have permission to access"

Attempt 2 : Installed Kies. Connected Phone via USB. Kies could not detect. Tried troubleshoot option which again installed the drivers available with Kies. Still same error

Attempt 3 : Removed Kies, Uninstalled the device from device manager, uninstalled any drivers related to Samsung found in control panel. Connected phone via USB. Same error

Attempt 4 : Cleanup similar to Attempt 3, installed latest Kies, connected phone via USB. Kies could not connect. Tried troubleshooting option of Kies and reconnected. Kies could not connect. Still getting same error via explorer

Attempt 5 : Cleanup similar to Attempt 3. Disabled USB and Portable Media related group policy settings which disallow access. Connect via USB. Same error. Cleanup, followed by Kies installation. Same issue as Attempt 4

Don't know what to do now. Same cable works on other laptops so cable is definitely not faulty. Besides, my phone does gets charged when connected to my laptop. I don't want to re-install OS because of this silly issue

  10. I don't bother with Kies when I first had the note 2 Samsung had not upgraded for the Note 2

Now my phone charges as soon as I connect to the laptop, I can only think it is something to do with your computer, drivers are corrupted somewhere sad to say can you not go back in time to a restore point....it is a pain but you may have to install the OS again...infact it is a good idea to clean the computer every so often to rid all the rubbish that lurks in the background that we are unaware of

  11. You are obviously pretty determined to sort it out - I hope you do so!

When I had similar problems with Kies my obstinate streak came to the fore and I went to what are rather extreme lengths to get it working on a Win XP, PC. Kies worked at the first attempt on a laptop, with Win Vista. I outlined what eventually worked for me in post #4 at

    Good luck!

How do you fix you don't have permission to access this device?

Change permissions based on their type.
On your phone, open the Settings app..
Tap Privacy. Permission manager..
Tap a permission type. If you allowed or denied permission to any apps, you'll find them here..
To change an app's permission, tap the app, then choose your permission settings..

Why do I get you don't have permission to access on this server?

The “Access Denied” error appears when your browser uses different proxy settings or VPN instead of what's really set on your Windows 10 PC. Thus, when a website detects that there is something wrong with your browser cookies or your network, it blocks you and this is why you can't open it.

How do I allow my computer to access my Android phone?

With a USB cable, connect your phone to your computer. On your phone, tap the "Charging this device via USB" notification. Under "Use USB for," select File Transfer. A file transfer window will open on your computer.

What app permissions should I allow?

Only give your Android apps permission to access what they need to access on your device to provide the functionality you require from them. For example, it's natural that your weather app or navigation app will need access to your location to function properly.
