What is the probability of getting a face card if a card is drawn at random from a pack of 52 well shuffled playing cards?

A card is drawn at random from a well-shuffled pack of 52 playing cards. Find the probability of the events that the card drawn is :

(a) a king (b) a face card.

A total number of all possible outcomes = 52.

i.e,. n(S) = 52

a. Let A be the favourable outcomes of getting a king, Then

i.e.,n(A) = 4

Therefore,

⇒ p(A) = `(n(A))/(n(S)) =4/52 = 1/13`.

b. Let B be the favourable outcomes of getting a face card, then

i.e., n(B) = 12

Therefore,

⇒ P(A) = `(n(B))/(n(s)) = 12/52 = 3/13`.
