Who wants to stay up late to listen to more news after being bombarded by news all day long relentlessly? The reason why the Tonight Show became so popular and remains such is because it's shallow, mildly amusing, pleasant, and doesn't arouse strong emotions.
When someone grows drowsy, they can turn it off and go to sleep in a good frame of mind.

I always thought his Saturday night show was great, and often wondered why it wasn't on all week. I was happy to see that FOX finally caught on, and made it a daily show. And it is paying off big time. I still think it would be even better in prime time instead of late night.
I like seeing the triggered lefties. They thought they had a monopoly on humor, and now they are all bent out of shape because they don't. I've always taken a more light hearted view of politics, but my only options for that kind of programming were from the left. I'm thrilled to have a right leaning show that adds fun into political discussion.

The tongue in cheek standup routine Greg's semi-regular guest Tom Shillue did the other night had DH and I rolling...about politically incorrect stereotyped characters in commercials of the 70's. He covered everybody we're not supposed to talk about anymore...the "Frito Bandito" waving guns and stealing your corn chips (then taking a nap); the Chinese laundry using "ancient Chinese secret" (Calgon); and the little Hawaiian guy who goes around socking anybody who wants a "nice Hawaiian punch". And what they'd do TODAY to any ad executive who thought up those characters.
I liked Tom Shillue...he replaced Greg on Red Eye after he left, but nobody could replace Greg Gutfeld.

I agree with you Mrs. I never watched Red Eye but last night’s comedian was fantastic. Greg may be on to something; let a comedian that skewers the left come on for a brief standup set (reminds me of Carson when he would have one on). And as for the lefties that are triggered, the show is not all hate hate hate. It has several light-hearted, goofy moments. Greg even ends each show by saying “I Love You, America!”

Gutfeld’s rapport with his Fox coworkers is hilarious. He ribs just about every one of them, especially Kat Timpf. The show is just plain fun to watch. When he refers to sweet, calm, stalwart professional Shannon Bream as “evil Shannon” I just die laughing.

I grew up with Johnny Carson. He had great comedic timing ( as all great comedians have). Gutfeld doesn’t really, but he is a great writer and has the same ability that .Johnny had of laughing at himself. The Gutfeld!! Show is unusual because it’s basically an ensemble show among friends with almost zero celebrities. They are an unusual bunch, poke fun at each other and at politics. No PC in this bar table bunch. A little more like the old Saturday Night Live bunch than current late night comedy … which has ceased to be funny and become preachy.
I started watching it some after I saw all the ratings - hard to believe that this Bar table bunch of friends is beating all the Network big names - but they are more interesting and I guess that’s why.

Great news. It tells us who the majority of people listen to. Glad to hear most late night folks stay away from awful late night shows on other channels and watch Greg's show where they all make fun of Teleprompter Biden and tell it like it is!!!!!!! People are sick and tired of Idiot Joey and his crew and we're sick of MSM and their lies.

I'd say he just as entertaining on both shows. It seems The Five is more ad lib whereas Gutfield! it seems more scripted.
On an unrelated note, is Sandra Smith a closet liberal? I don't like her. She's on The Five now.

I do think it's ironic, but the left turn and politicization of the traditional late night chat shows paved the way for Gutfeld.
